Accounting & Finance Supervisor

  • This is a full-time, year-round salaried position with Miami-Dade County Fair & Exposition, Inc. (Company). The position includes a generous employee benefit package and a discretionary annual performance based bonus plan. Reimbursement of relocation expenses in not included with this position

    The company is a private, $15 million non-profit 501(c) 3 organization chartered by the State of Florida. Its mission is to enrich our community by promoting education and South Florida's agriculture and horticulture industries while showcasing youth achievement. This is accomplished by producing a first-class Fair each spring and by providing facilities and resources for events, expositions and exhibitions on a year-round basis.

  • Primary Job Responsibilities
    • Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), the Accounting & Finance Supervisor will be responsible for the direct and day-to-day oversight of all accounting, finance and reporting activities.
    • The Accounting & Finance Supervisor will be involved in supporting presentations to the company's Board of Directors, the Board of Directors' Audit Committee and Investment Committee, its President and Chief Executive Officer and will work closely with the company's senior leadership team.
    • The Accounting & Finance Supervisor will lead all day-to-day accounting and finance operations of an operating expense budget of approximately $14 million with direct supervision of one (1) accounts payable clerk.
    • The Accounting & Finance Supervisor will have direct "hands on" functional accountability for the following areas; accounting, accounts receivable, full-time benefited workforce time and attendance via the company's Kronos software/hardware (working with the IT Manager), inventory control and analysis, bank deposits, general ledger, employee benefits (working with the Director, Administration & Compliance) and other activities as may be required by the company.
    • The Accounting & Finance Supervisor, in collaboration with the CFO, will ensure the company has the software systems, policies and procedures to support effective program implementation and conduct internal and outside audits.
    • The Accounting & Finance Supervisor, in collaboration with the CFO, works closely with the company's senior leadership and their staffs to educate them regarding the accounting and finance procedures and to explore how the accounting and finance function can support their department's program initiatives and operations.
  • Specific Job Responsibilities
    • Participates in the development of and supports the company's strategic and tactical plans.
    • With the collaboration of the CFO, monitors closely the company's financial performance.
    • Compiles and analyzes financial reporting packages presented to the CFO and the company's senior leadership.
    • Ensures accurate and timely recording of all transactions by implementing and executing disciplines of internal audits, controls and checks across all company departments.
    • With the collaboration of the CFO, oversees all accounts, ledgers and reporting systems to ensure strict compliance with appropriate standards and regulatory requirements.
    • Manages the accuracy and productivity of the day-to-day activities of accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash disbursements, cash control, invoicing/billing, customer/vendor credits, payroll, perpetual inventory integrity, fixed asset records, general and entity accounting and cost accounting.
    • Develop, improve and issue timely monthly financial reports/records for review by the CFO, the President and Chief Executive Officer and the company's Board of Directors.
    • Working with the CFO, provides financial analysis tools and reports to thoroughly evaluate company ventures, initiatives, special projects, programs, capital expenditures, product costing and pricing.
    • Works closely with the Director, Administration & Compliance in the development and economic evaluation of employee benefit programs and the company's wage and salary structure.
    • Working closely with the CFO and the IT Manager, ensures that the company's financial reporting software is current.
    • Provides to direct reports feedback, appraisal and, if necessary, discipline.
    • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops and establishing personal and professional networks.
    • Keeps all accounting and financial information and plans strictly confidential.
    • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing tasks and disseminating related results in a prompt and timely manner.

    • Excellent written and verbal presentation skills.
    • Fluency in English as it relates to both verbal and written communication is mandatory.
    • Ability and desire to translate accounting and financial concepts to individuals at all levels.
    • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Accounting, Finance or related discipline from a four-year college or university is mandatory. CPA license is not required.
    • Five (5) or more years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Excellence in the utilization of all MS Office software is mandatory.
    • Must be able to work, as the business demands, non-traditional business hours. Working non-traditional business hours is mandatory during the time preceding the company's annual Youth Fair & Exposition, as well as during the run of the annual Youth Fair & Exposition and the time immediately following the conclusion of the annual Youth Fair & Exposition.
